What Valentine's Day Really Means

Image
Valentine’s Day, celebrated on February 14th, is a day dedicated to expressing love and affection toward others. It is named after Saint Valentine, a Christian martyr, but over time, it has become a celebration of romantic relationships, friendships, and even familial love. People exchange cards, flowers, and gifts, hoping to show those they care about how much they mean to them. While it has its roots in history, today’s version of Valentine’s Day is widely embraced as a chance to express love in various forms.            We celebrate Valentine’s Day to honor the special people in our lives. It serves as a reminder to take a moment to appreciate the relationships we often take for granted. Although love can be shown every day, this holiday gives us a chance to make an extra effort, whether it’s through giving gifts, spending time together, or simply saying “I love you.” In a busy world, it can be easy to forget the importance of showin...

Behind the Scenes of Our Community-Based Research (CBR) Project

Image
Planning for the CBR     This picture shows the rest of the group planning for our Community-Based Research project. Since I was sick and our leader was absent, we discussed the plan through online chats. Even though we weren’t all physically together, we were still able to share ideas and decide what part we'll be doing. It was a great start to working together, even from a distance. Working on Our Part in the CBR     Here’s a photo of the group working hard on our tasks. Each of us was responsible for different parts of the project, like collecting data, writing, and analyzing information. We helped each other out and made sure we stayed on track. Working together made the project smoother and more enjoyable. Our Leader Interviewing the Kapitan in Guimod      In this picture, our group leader is interviewing the Kapitan in Guimod. She took the initiative to do the interview and gathered important information for our research. The convers...

My Journey this 3rd Quarter

Image
This quarter, I learned a lot about different topics that has been discussed, especially community-based research (CBR). I discovered how important it is to work with people from a community to understand their needs and find solutions. Conducting CBR helped me see how research can directly benefit communities by involving them in the process. I also learned about the different types of lists in HTML, like the ordered list (ol), unordered list (ul), and nested lists. I now understand how to use description tags like "dd" (definition description), "dt" (definition term), "dl" description list, and how they help organize information clearly.     One of the challenges I faced was understanding how to use all the HTML tags correctly. At first, I was confused about where to place the "ol," "ul," and how to properly structure lists. But, as for the "dd", "dt"and "dl" tags, I quickly learned what they are m...

The Reason Filipinos Observe Chinese New Year

Image
Chinese New Year is a big celebration in the Philippines, especially for the Filipino-Chinese community, but many Filipinos also take part in the festivities. This celebration has been part of Filipino culture for centuries because of the strong relationship between the Philippines and China. Chinese immigrants have lived in the country for many years, and their traditions have blended with Filipino culture. Today, Chinese New Year is a time for families to come together and celebrate, regardless of their heritage.      Filipinos observe Chinese New Year because it is a time for new beginnings and good luck. People often give "ang pao," red envelopes filled with money, to children and unmarried adults. This is a tradition meant to bring good fortune. Filipinos also clean their homes before the New Year to get rid of bad luck and welcome good energy. Families prepare special foods that are thought to bring good health and wealth, such as noodles...

Vigan Cityhood - Vigan as a Municipality Then and Vigan as a City Now

Image
Vigan, a city in Ilocos Sur, has a long and rich history that dates back to the Spanish colonial period. It was founded in 1572 and became a prosperous town due to its location near the sea, making it an important center for trade. The town grew and became known for its unique mix of Spanish, Chinese, and local Filipino influences. Vigan’s beautiful colonial architecture, such as its cobblestone streets and old Spanish houses, made it a special place in the Philippines.              Even though Vigan was recognized as a city by the Spanish in 1758, it didn’t always maintain that status over time. After the Philippines became independent, Vigan was considered a municipality, and its city status was not always clear. In 2000, President Joseph Estrada signed a law, Republic Act No. 8988, which officially gave Vigan back its city status. This helped improve the local government and allowed Vigan to better...

I will try to wake up earlier, eat healthier, and spend less time on my phone. One of my biggest challenges has been overcoming laziness, so I aim to be more productive and motivated each day. I also want to be more patient and understanding with others. I won't let my emotions control me, instead I'll control my emotions. These change...

A calm and lovely Christmas

Image
This Christmas holiday was quiet and simple for me. I stayed in my room most of the time, enjoying the peace and quiet. I mostly watched movies and scrolled on social media. Even though I didn’t do anything big, I still felt happy because it was Christmas.      One of my favorite parts of the holiday was helping with the decorations. I helped set up the Christmas tree, hang ornaments, and put up lights. The lights made our house look bright and cheerful. It felt good to help make everything look nice for Christmas. On Christmas Day, I spent time with my family. We ate a big meal and celebrated Christmas together, talking and laughing. I received a gift from my family, and it was fun to open it.      Even though we didn’t have a big party, being together made it special. I'm grateful for what I received this Christmas, it's not just about the gifts, but the moments that make this season special. Christmas was simple, but it was full of lo...
